A spot of literary sewing

Hello! I just finished this dress, made from the bodice pattern of the Brown Birds dress I posted a while back (Simplicity 6194), and a basic square gathered skirt. I love this pattern so much, it is really very versatile and fits just right. The cream bib is cut from a tattered 1930's blouse. When I put on the little straw hat with the dress, it reminded me so much of Madeline that I had to put on the white socks and black shoes as well! Do you ever let characters from books inspire you to dress up?

I learned how to make thread loops for a hook closure for this dress, and much prefer them to hook-and-eye sets made of metal. Thank you for looking, and there are a few more photos on my blog. xo
