Hi everyone,
I'm new here and new to sewing as well. I've loved vintage clothing for a long time, particularly the 60's mod look and the 4o's/50's pin up look, but I've always found finding vintage to be challenging. Sure, you can buy online, but there's always the risk that it won't look right when you finally get to try it on. Even in a big city like Atlanta, vintage clothing stores have hardly any stock and what they do have, often happens to be in the wrong size. So, that's what brought me to sewing from vintage patterns.
I'm learning how to sew strictly from books, which can be a bit frustrating at times, but it's also fun. I've created two dresses from vintage patterns so far and have altered another dress. I'm still not so confident that my items will actually hold together. Is this a common fear for new sewers or should I really be afraid? ; - ) Ha ha.
Anyway, I've spent hours looking through this blog and have enjoyed seeing everyone's creations and input. It's been a joy, so I hope to give back by sharing as well. And of course, I hope to get to the point where I'm not afraid that my garments are going to fall apart ; - )
Thanks for having me,
Astrid
P.S. The first dress I ever made is pictured below. I hemmed it quite a bit. You can't see it, but the hem is a little funky. Hope to perfect this process soon. Also, my actual blog FringePop doesn't have any sewing posts just yet, because I'm very new to this.
