This isn't quite your everyday wear of the 1960s, but I thought I may as well post it up here - after all, I was recreating a very famous costume from that era! (If it isn't allowed, then... eep! I'm sorry!)
For an event where I work, the staff are asked to dress up in costume, so I decided to make Jeannie's costume from I Dream of Jeannie. I used a vintage pattern for the bolero, and lots of advice from bellydancing forums to draft my harem pants. The top was a cheap bra with interfacing in a few areas to add structure and modesty, and chiffon sewn over the top.
You can see a little bit in this photo how the top hangs too low at the back - any suggestions for fixing that would be much appreciated! The bolero is a little too short to cover it; I just would like to take it up to the point where I can't see a gap between the two and have the top running at the same height all the way round. I used a halterneck tie to hold the top up, I'm thinking this might have had something to do with it but I'd love to hear other suggestions on how to fix the one thing about this costume that is really eating at me!
Thanks for looking! Plenty more pictures over at my blog: http://thebarnothing.blogspot.com/
