intro and latest project!

Hello everyone! I've been following the Sew Retro community for ages, and don't know why it's taken me so long to join! I really enjoy reading about the variety of projects and ideas that spring up--I'm so glad I can finally jump in the fun.

My name is Casey and I blog at Elegant Musings about sewing, vintage fashion, knitting, and various other creative pursuits. I've been interested in vintage fashion since I was a little girl, and my favorite eras encompass the early 1900s through mid 60s, although mid century fashion (40s and 50s) tends to always catch my eye (and ends up what I wear the most of). Sewing with vintage patterns was something that was introduced to me when I was in my teens, and I've been collecting and whipping up various things with them ever since!

I've been in a bit of a sewing rut the past few weeks, but recently made a quick 50s circle skirt to help get me out of said rut. I think it may have done the trick--I'm excited to sew again! I used instructions from a 1954 sewing booklet and a heavy cotton from Ikea. The pockets I just free-formed and trimmed with a bit of mini-bobble trim I had in the stash. I love how it turned out--I just need a poufier petticoat!

Looking forward to becoming active in this community!
