Strawberry Sorbetto Dress

This is definitely the Summer of Sorbetto, as this pattern has become one of my very favourite pattern blocks. After my first foray into Sorbetto dresses, I wanted to try my hand at a full skirt version.

Like other modern patterns with good bones, it's really easy to make a vintage/retro-inspired garment with just a few tweaks. I have made 4 tops from the un-frankensteined version of this pattern and the fit is spot on! This pattern is very easy to construct, having only bust darts and the CF pleat. To make the dress, I shortened the bodice by 5 inches and added a simple gathered skirt. There are no closures, so the dress slips over my head easily.

(No rain for over a month = dead grass. Pffft!)

I have had this gorgeous Strawberry Fields print in my stash since Meadowsweet was released. I readily admit to sighing over the print quite a bit as I dreamed of the perfect pattern. Having only two yards, I used some of my favourite red pin dot to add a generous border to the hem. I also used my favourite giant rick rack to trim the pleat. My handmade pin dot bias tape from my cherry top finished the neck and armholes. The belt is vintage and a gift from a good friend.

I absolutely love this dress! I have been yearning for a yellow dress for quite some time and I'm so happy I finally cut into this fabric. Both Mr. and Miss Friday told me that this is one of their favourite dresses I've made. I am happy to report that I have finished all of the dresses on my Summer Essentials Sew-Along Plan!
