Dear Sew Retro Members and Readers,

I started Sew Retro back in June 2006, gaining members by leaving comments on blogs that posted about vintage things and asking them to please join.  I wanted to create a community of likeminded sewers who shared what they had made and found, answered questions, offered help and supported each other in their love of vintage and retro sewing.

I thought that 100 members would be a stretch and was amazed to keep sending out invitations and to watch the number rise and rise.  Today there are 527 members (not all active of course) which I still find hard to believe.  The number of hits this site receives each day and the fact that the invitation requests keep coming is still surprising to me. I’ve worked with and been helped by some lovely people over the years, Andrea who did the current site design for free and on her own time and Toria who has kept the site going (and visible, thanks Blogger…) in recent months.  We have been a bit like ducks in the upkeep of this site, everything looks smooth on the surface but underneath things are going on and there is constant work to be done answering questions, solving problems, planning events and sorting out any problems that come up.

I have loved running Sew Retro, setting up competitions and give always and seeing what everyone has been up to but my life today is very different from how it was 5 years ago and I am going to go through some more major changes this year which will mean that I need to allocate my time better.  My main priority has to be my children and myself and I can not afford to spend time or energy on everything I have in the past.  Sew Retro just does not fit into my life any more and with sadness I have realised that it is time for me to let go and move on.

In the first instance I am looking for someone to take over the site.  I would obviously prefer that it carry on being run ad free and not for profit but I understand that when it leaves my hands the new owner can do whatever they want with it.  Please drop me a line at sewretro at hotmail dot com if you are interested in taking over and include information in your email about your relationship with Sew Retro and how you would like to run it so I can endeavour to make a good choice for all our members.

Should a new owner not be found by the 1st October 2011 Sew Retro will cease to be an active site.  I will leave it up for reference but no new posts will be accepted.  I do understand that this option would be upsetting to many and it is not a decision I have taken quickly or lightly.

Thank you all for your support, interest and words over the years.  It is all of you who have made this site what it is and you should be proud of yourselves, I know I’m proud of us all.

Happy sewing and thank you again

Kind Regards

Anna
