Summertime Silk

Now that the weather has decided to heat up, I am pulling out all my summer dresses before the heat decides to disappear until next year!

As further proof that I am obsessed with vintage reproduction patterns, here is yet another finished dress currently residing in my closet.  This one is Butterick 5209, a pattern originally printed in 1947.

Have I mentioned that I am absolutely in love with the styles of the 1940s?    I was first attracted to the halter version, but decided that the cap sleeved look would be much more wearable.  And I am so glad I made the decision – the sleeves are one of my favorite parts of the garment.

Now if only I had a big floppy hat like the one in the pattern illustration, I would be all set for my garden party!

More pictures may be found over on my blog, Lilacs and Lace.

'Reflection of the Moon' Frock

This 'Reflection of the Moon' Frock is made from the vintage reprint
Butterick 5209 retro ’47 by using a border print cotton sateen that reminded me of the moon’s reflection in water. This dress was made for the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations at my son's school, an event where we will admire the moon, eat mooncakes, drink tea and carry lanterns. New Member Hello

Hi Everyone-

Love the blog and all of your work! I'm Trena, I love to sew, and my personal style is "retro fantasy." I sew A LOT (haven't bought any retail clothes for several years). I don't sew too many vintage patterns, but maybe finally joining Sew Retro will encourage me to do more.

My sewing blog is here.

One of my vintage projects is McCall 6788, from 1947. I bought both of the fabrics (the outer and the contrast inner fabric for the cape sleeve and the facing) on my trip to Tokyo. You can read more about this project on the blog.

I have another, more recent project that I will post soon.
