Acceptable in the 80s

Take a look at what I did with this 80s-tastic ensemble! The pattern is totally awesome but unfortunately this polyester skirt and blouse outfit is huge on me.

This is actually part 2 of a two-part remake. I refashioned the skirt into a summer dress using a basic pattern with ties at the shoulders...

Summer Sewing- a Romp in the Garden

Hello all! I just sewed up a quick little romper from 1982. 

It was fun and easy to do. The pattern was not appropriate for stripes, but I like to live dangerously :), and I wasn't too worried about the matching, as this is a romper for gardening on the farm. If you care to see what has been up around here lately, stop by my blog Farmhouse Garden.

Is fabric from 1984 vintage? Does that make me vintage?

Hi Sew Retro! My name is Rebecca and I'm new to the Sew Retro team.  I'm a 26 year old sewer and crafter, owner of the cutest dog Pearl, and am starting at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to study Fashion Design in a few weeks.  I love vintage patterns and have collected quite a few.  Love vintage fabric too.  I guess my first post for Sew Retro will be about my new PJs!

I used baby Disney character fabric from 1984 to make PJs.  Is the fabric considered vintage yet? The pattern is new though.  I hope you like the fabric as much as I do.  I think its really silly.

I am back from vacation and have started on a new project which will hopefully produce a beautiful dress and teach me draping and a few couture techniques along the way.

Boy's Bath Robe - Butterick 6974 - circa. 1980's

I made this bath robe for my son using Butterick 6974, a 1980's pattern. It is so comfy. He loves to snuggle up in it. I used plush fleece sofa throws for the material. It feels very luxurious. You should have seen my floor. This material really sheds when you cut into it. To help prevent further shedding once it was sewn, on the inside, I first sewed two rows of stitching, then zig zagged the edges. For that professional finished look, I top stitched the outside of the robe. And voila, a handsome robe for a handsome boy.
