Hello all,
My name is Anna and I'm an alcoh.... ooooops, wrong forum. I'm a vintage pattern addict and sewist and I'm so excited to get a chance to post to Sew Retro. I've been sewing for a few years now, teaching myself as I go along. I'm a military wife, currently stationed in Norway, where fabric is hard to find, sewing patterns are almost non-existent, and there's barely enough light to sew by most days. This poses a unique set of challenges to each project, which are always fun to overcome.
My blog, A Few Threads Loose, is a bit of a sewing journal, Scandinavian rant, and vintage purist soap box all rolled into one.
For this project, my husband was out of town for work for a couple of nights. When he is gone, I can't seem to make myself go to bed (bad Anna!), so I stayed up over-night to make this little beauty.
I used Simplicity 1144 that I won in an epic ebay bidding war. From the envelope: "Misses' and Women's Slip and Panties: A top-stitched inset joins the softly gathered upper front to the bias-cut lower front. The upper back, shaped in a V at the lower edge, is top-stitched to the bias-cut lower back."
The pattern is from 1944. It was very easy to sew and the instructions were clear with great illustrations. One thing I changed was instead of using bias tape to finish the top edges, I drafted and cut my own front and back facing pieces.
I had fun doing the gathers at the bust which I find rather advantageous with a figure that has a boob deficiency.
I highly recommend this pattern to any of you vintage pattern enthusiasts. I've seen it for sale on etsy.com a few times in the last month or so. It's definitely worth fighting for, worth winning, and a little bit worth gloating over.
Happy hunting!
