Hello Ladies,
I have just finished sewing my dress for the 1950s sew-along I had on my blog, and here are the results!
I used a drapey pink rayon for the main body of the dress, along with a lovely rose-print matte satin for the front panel. This is the first time I've sewn B4790 using the contrasting fabric option, and I really think I rather like it! I wore a crinoline with the skirt that is specially designed for the walkway dress, and I created a last-minute headpiece to complete the 50s look. I just covered a crinoline frame with taffeta, then decorated it with ribbon and roses. I wore a birdcage veil in front of the headpiece, then flipped it back over the top like Lucille Ball often wore her hats from back then.
The skirt is finished with a lettuce hem edge for the ruffly, almost "flower petal" hem, and I had the pictures taken in a massive rose garden which was the perfect setting for this floral inspired dress. Hope you enjoy the pictures! (You can read all about this dress and how to make a 1950 hairstyle on my blog).
Happy sewing!
Katrina

Butterick $2.88 Sale
Heads up, it's Butterick sale time (again), this time all current patterns are $2.88 including the Retro range. Is it me, or has the retro range shrunk? And why don't McCall's have one I wonder?
I am only just starting to find some of the great repro patterns that are now long out-of-print a second time. These two lovelies arrived in the post this morning:
There seems to have been a spate of scallop hem tutorials recently so perfect skirt pattern to complement those, I have some brown crepe looking for the perfect pattern partner. The misses and girls coat pattern includes misses S to L and girls sizes 2 to 8 in the one envelope - what value!
I've blogged before of my love for mother-daughter patterns, but is it a little sad or is it cute? (Bearing in mind my daughter is not quite 2 and too young to choose what she wears, although I do ask her opinion and she's very good at demonstrating when she doesn't want to wear something!)
Happy Thursday!
