The Plain Pattern Project Dress #1

Dress #1 The one that is closest to the original pattern.

*whew* I worked on fit a lot with this dress. You can see more finished images on my site. And of course, all the construction stuff is on the blog.

nautical-inspired: simplicity 3061

i've been hanging on to this pattern for about a year now, dying to make it up but a little apprehensive (bound buttonholes? eek!):
Photobucket
i finally got up the nerve (& some lovely navy linen :3) to cut it out & sew it up. the bound buttonholes weren't so bad - i ended up making 4 of them (two of the buttons are non-functional, but i couldn't stand the idea of 2 buttons not having bound buttonholes behind them... i mean, wtf)!

the only other pattern changes i made was 1" seam allowances at the shoulders & bodice side seams. i was originally planning on doing the sleeves, the contrasting removeable collar, and the self-covered belt... but i didn't buy enough fabric for any of that. whoops! regardless, i like the way it looks & i'm fairly satisfied with the fit.

what do you think?

the red belt is just something i had in my closet. i need to find me a nice brown belt!

1920s Sun Bonnet

Hi everyone.
Here is a sun bonnet I made. I created the pattern from those cool and easy bonnets you see in the flapper magazines :)
Its in linen and lined in cotton.

All the progress is on the blog, and more finished images on NVL.

Linen WWI hat for Man Month

I just finished remaking a cool WWI wool hat in a bright cool linen for a friend of mine. It was quite an interesting exercise.

You can read more about it here, and here.
Thanks!

Newbie from Montréal!

Hey everybody! So just as I've noticed when most of you have joined, I have decided to join into Sew Retro after being a stalker on this blog for a few months now.   I've just started sewing this past january and have just recently started takling sewing patterns!! So as an intro, I wanted to show you the first dress I made which is a 1960s reprint from Simplicity.

Now you'll see that I've decided to do view one, but I opted to take off the sleeves.  At the time I made the dress, about 3 weeks ago now, it had been between 30C and 39C steaming hot for the past other 3 weeks.  So I wanted something light.  I used a printed linen which I really like (except for the fact that it has to be ironed everytime I want to wear it!!)  I also used interfacing for the first time which gave great results!! Anyhow, here are a few pictures of the dress!

You can get a bit more info on it on my blog.  Also, please excuse me if I sometimes use weird english expressions....I am originally a francophone!

Cheers!
