SHIFT DRESS

This is Butterick 4127 from I think circa 1965 (please correct me if I'm wrong as I couldn't find any date markings on the pattern cover or instructions)

I decided on making a tie belt for the dress because it looked a bit 'sack-like' on me and preferred a bit more shape around the wasteline!

It's an 'E-Z' pattern to whip up and you can find out a bit more about it here!

Farm Chic

Hello all!
It is cold here in western NC, and we are expecting 6-10 inches of snow to keep us home tomorrow. I love this time of year- the holiday craziness has passed, and the weather keeps me inside, snuggling with loved ones, and of course, sewing! I recently finished Simplicity 5914:
Then when I couldn't get good lighting for detailed photos, I went outside in a sleeveless dress for photographs on the farm.
Good thing I have that Mainer thick blood!
I used all thrifted vintage notions, including a great belt slide. Hooray for hoarding! I have posted far too many more photos and far too many details of the sewing process on my blog, Farmhouse Garden. I have really been admiring all the amazing sewing you ladies have been up to the past few weeks; it is truly inspirational.

Groovy Sixties Shift Dress: McCalls 7743

Hi Everyone!
I made this cute little shift dress from a 1965 McCall's pattern, using vintage cotton and a vintage button.
Here's the original pattern and fabric choice:
And here's the finished dress! I love the open back detail, it adds a fun surprise when you turn around! Features like that make a simple dress a little more special.
More pictures and details on my blog here!

Post-it dress missed the post

I worked like a demon to finish this one for the Pattern Review Vintage Pattern Challenge and went to upload it... only to find that a contest closing on 1 May ACTUALLY means it closes on 30 April. Bummer. Anyhoo, here it is, the Post-it Dress, named so because it's exactly that yellow colour.

More details about alterations and construction on my blog here and here and on Pattern Review.

Go vote for a Sew Retro member, there are a few of 'em in the contest and they've made some corkers!
