Simplicity 2591

 It seems early to be thinking about Fall, but it has rained here all night and drizzled the best part of today. When I look up on the Mesa it is covered in snow. How did October already get here?

Here is my version of Simplicity 2591. 

The fabric is vintage and was from my stash. The fabric has that stylized brushstroke thing going on that makes me believe it is 50's fabric (also was 35" wide).

McCall's 4783

Hi all.

As I write this I'm looking out my window and it's snowing. This may not seem strange if it's winter where you are. It feels strange here, as it is supposed to be Spring in Colorado.

I am taking part in the Me-Made-May challenge. I'm excited on several levels. One of the things this will prompt me to do, is take photos of my completed garments.

This skirt is made from a discontinued McCall's pattern 4783. It has a close fitting yoke, but a nice full skirt. So you get a full skirt without the bulk around the waist. The fabric used is vintage. The underling is longer than the skirt and I trimmed it with velvet ribbon. Probably not much of a summer skirt, but hey, Summer may not actually ever get here. ;)

Little black dress

Hi.

Fall truly fell...

This is not the photo shoot I had in mind. I envisioned lovely falling leaf backdrops and gorgeous colors; which by the way, is what we had until the snowstorm. That's right we had a snowstorm. In fact, the prediction is for another tomorrow. A winter dress would have been more appropriate.

I'll get right on that. ;)

The almost perfect pencil skirt

I've been on the hunt for the perfect pencil skirt. This one is pretty darn close. I am making it up again in a wool boucle with some changes. I've reviewed a couple others that I've tried here. I would like to share pencil skirt info with any of you gals that have made one up that you've liked. I'm still open to try another. Come on over and share your experience.

Summer of the Dress Re-Visited

At this rate I'll have to do Decade of the Dress. I combined a couple different patterns to come up with the details that I wanted. I'm still not sure about the hemline. I am tempted to raise it a couple inches. Come on over and let me know what you think.

Simplicity 2614

The perfect lightweight summer top. This vintage fabric has such a fine hand. I only managed to have enough by piecing the facing.
I really enjoyed this pattern. It went together with no issues. I can't say that about all modern patterns. I really do find that the vintage patterns (generally) have less fit issues.
I also found this pattern true to the picture on the pattern envelope. Don't you just hate it when you've finished a piece and when comparing it to the photo on the front of the pattern something such as the neckline just doesn't seem the same. Why?? Too many times I've completed my project only to find that the neckline is too low, gaping, etc., etc. I've even had the thought that it's not the same garment at all. So... I only use the picture as an inspiration. To get to the pattern details I always look at the line drawings. Check the details, make sure that you are getting the pattern that you think you are.
Case in point and small irritation, I did not find that this pattern is as flared on the bottom as the line drawing shows. Just sayin...

Last summer I pulled several vintage patterns from my collection. I had lofty ambition and made a vow to work my way through them by summers end. I ran out of summer before I ran out of patterns. Would it be redundant to revisit Summer of the Dress? We could call it Summer of the Dress Two, or Summer of the Dress part two, Summer of the Dress Revisited, Summer of the Dress Deux. I am open to suggestion come on over and let me know what you think.

Yellow vintage fabric

So with breath held I wacked right into this vintage fabric. I believe it to be from the fifties. It is 100% cotton, but feels like silk. I truly prefer the older fabric. We've lost something in the manufacturing of fabric. I am sure there is an explanation. Thread count, cost to produce, something. As a consequence I tend to hoard the vintage that I have. I really want to use it but I'm afraid that once it's gone I'll never find more. However; I can't enjoy it sitting on my shelf either. So I'm debusting the stash. More of my journey here...

I wanted to get this skirt done before Dressember. This is the hot pattern pencil skirt that has been in the black hole unfinished since this post. I was having fit issues. Maybe I should have made a muslin? ;) Problems solved I'm happy to report. Does anyone have thoughts about this pattern company? I have several patterns on order. (Hot patterns is having a sale). Now that my skirt is finished-
bring on Dressember.
