First vintage outing...

Here it is ….. my first ever garment made from a real life vintage pattern.  I used Advance 7701 from the 1950's and it was pretty straightforward to put together.  I'll need to extend the waist ties a little as my waist is not a tiny 1950's one, but apart from that it's everything I hoped for.

The style fits in with the rest of my wardrobe, the colour is right and it’s my first vintage top so it’s extra special. I love it.  Read more about it on my blog - Handmade Janex

Handmade Jane

Hi, I’m Jane and I’ve been sewing for just over a year.  When I'm not chasing around after my two young sons, I spend a lot of my time sighing over fabrics (usually vintage inspired prints) and agonising over which pattern to team them with.  So far I’ve made a few retro styled items, this 50’s style button back blouse from Collette Patterns...
... and what I like to call my ‘lady dress’ which I made from McCall’s Easy pattern M2401.

Please check out my my blog Handmade Jane, where you can read about them here and here.

Having gained a few skills and upped my confidence I’m now ready to have a go at a real life vintage pattern.  I’ve got three waiting in the wings, but I think this one will be the first one I try.

Looking forward to sharing the results with you all. x

So Excited to be Joining Sew Retro!

Hello All!
I have been admiring all of your work on Sew Retro for a while now, and I am very excited to start posting here along with you. My name is Abigail, and I live, sew, and tend our home in the mountains of beautiful Western North Carolina. I blog about crafting, thrifting, food, canning, sewing, and general goings on around our 13 acre farmstead at Farmhouse Garden. Here is a photo of a shirt I sewed recently for my husband's birthday gift out of a great vintage thrifted material and pattern:

Here is another photo of my husband in his shirt, holding the nicest thing I have ever made
(and the reason that all of my sewing gets done late at night!):

I also just finished up another present:

As I am still a relatively inexperienced sewer, I have to say that ripping seams on black knit fabric sewed with black thread is not too much fun! I have posted several more photos of these projects on my blog, and I invite you to come over and take a look.
I have been writing on various blogs through blogger for a while, but I have only recently started to make my posts public through Farmhouse Garden (just shy I guess!) Anyone who is interested in what goes on in rural NC is very welcome (and appreciated!) to follow my blog.
Well, thanks for having me! I look forward to contributing to the Sew Retro community, and you have all already inspired me so much!

Pattern search: Simplicity 5018, wrapped blouse from 1963

Update: Found it! Thanks Nathalie!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm looking for a scan of the pattern envelope for Simplicity 5018, this lovely wrapped top. I believe it is from 1963, based on the pattern number...and the hair.

I found the pattern pieces and the instruction sheet in a junk shop, but the envelope is missing. Please let me know if you spot it. I'd love to have a scan of the front and back of the envelope.

I already sent a request to Pattern Rescue and I'm cross posting this to my blog, Chronically Uncool. Any other ideas?

Another one off the to do list...

I finally finished the trousers I started at Easter so that's 4 off my to do list! Hurrah!!

I love them, although I do really need to adjust the buttons a little as the waist is still a bit on the big side. Seriously, I'm not that much of a funny shape am I?!! These are the trousers from the 40s overalls pattern by Eva dress. Great trousers but I think when I make them again I will make the legs slightly narrower. I have small feet & they kinda disappear inside the cuffs!!

I'm also wearing the wrap shirt I made the other day. I didn't mention how awesome the fabric is did I? It has little strawberries on it :D
