So I finally finished (except for attaching the buttons) the Simplicity 9978. I'm VERY pleased with it. I'm saving the buttons for a night when I'm watching TV. I even set up my photography backdrop to take the picture. See?



The bow detail on the front is hard to see, I know.

And here's the blog post. I'm thinking I need to lengthen the older one's dress by about two inches. Hopefully I have enough of the turquoise fabric to make do... Who knew my 6 year old shorty would be taller than a 1930s 6 year old?

Hello and Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this great blog!!! I am not new to sewing however I am new to blogging. I started a blog two weeks ago where I will journal my sewing projects for a trip to Bermuda as well as blow off some steam and rave about the things I like. I must be crazy...

To attempt all this in just a few short months...



Some of it is retro. Some isn't. You'll recognize the Vintage Vogue and Butterick patterns from my "What Should Be Next" post.



I have until August 30th to get them all done and packed for my cruise to the Bahamas/Key West. I'm so excited! This will be the first "real" vacation the hub and I have had without kids since 2001. So of course it needs a whole new wardrobe. Right? Right???

Not an April Fools!

The winner of this poll was the Very Easy Vogue. I didn't exactly tally the votes, but went from the overall feel of comments. I decided to make up the pattern that would give the quickest results and the least amount of swearing. I opted out of the sleeves since me and short sleeves aren't exactly friendly. Here's the result:

Polka Dot Paradise!

I scored an awesome vintage pattern from Lanetz Living about 18 months ago, I guess, and have been dying to make it into something *special* for the girls. You know how it is. You get the perfect pattern but the perfect fabric has yet to materialize (har har). I'd already bought the hairbows to go with. Chocolate brown and turquoise & chocolate brown and pink respectively. And still, no fabric. Until a late-night trip to the SuperWal-Mart. Fancy finding the exact shades of turquise and pink in dots on a chocolate brown background! Whoda thunk it? Anyhow, I spent way more than I should have for the fabric ($4/yard) but I was DETERMINED to make That Pattern into dresses with That Fabric.

Hi Everyone!

I am another happy lurker who decided to join the party.

As far as sewing goes my main era of addiction is the 70's. Then by way of extension the 40's since the 70's revisited the 40's styles a lot.

I also love costume jewelery from the 50's - 70's.

I am a certified crafting addict and get myself into all sorts of other creative stuff. It keeps me sane(?). While it is certainly not less expensive than therapy, it is a whole lot more fun.

Hmm. Guess I had better finish up that 70's jacket that has been hangin' with the UFOs for too long:

Go Sew Retro!

It's not pretty

Sometimes I get a little bit discouraged seeing how awesome all the projects are on Sew Retro. Is there a rule that we should only post the ones that turn out well? Or does everybody only post the projects they are proud of? I hope I'm not out of line posting something that didn't turn out well.

I'm still pretty new to sewing, and I mess up A LOT. My last post here was the dress with with the failed first attempt at sleeves. On this project, Vogue 2848, I got the sleeves right, but the dress is so big through the shoulders that it's awful. I didn't bother to finish it. See for yourself:

The dress is awful, but it's not a complete failure. I am now almost over my fear of working with a knit, and the sleeves actually turned out OK. Some day I may revisit this one and turn it into something wearable, but not any time soon.

I don't know if this is my place or not, but I had to delete about three drafts that were created from the auto save function on blogger. I took a look at the drafts for the blog, and there are about nine of them, dating back to November 10, 2006. So, if you haven't seen one of your posts, or if you type slowly like I do and want to see if blogger made another copy of one of your posts, go to edit posts and look at drafts, and see if any of yours are there that you would like published or deleted.
